Crystal Report Libraries

Before starting a new report in Crystal . . .

  1. Check to see if there is a standard report in the main Abra menu on the Activity Center that will serve your needs. No? . . .
  2. Can you get the report you need from Abra Secure Query? No? . . .
  3. Check to see if there is a report in one of the Crystal Libraries that can serve as a starting point for your new report.

Note: To see a list of the reports located in each Library along with a short description of the report, go to the online Help on the Abra Suite toolbar and select Contents. The Libraries are listed in the chapter entitled Reports/Custom Reports. Double click on one of the Libraries, e.g. Attendance, HR or Payroll to see the list of reports.

Crystal Report Libraries

When you install Abra Crystal Reports, several report libraries are also installed along with the application. If you have allowed the system to perform a typical installation, these will be located at the following location.

Programs\Best Software\Abra Suite\Programs\Crystal

Initiate a new report by launching Crystal Reports. The dialog box, Welcome to Crystal Reports will open. Click on the radio button, Open an Existing Report, and select More Files (alternatively, click on File/Open). Go to the location above and you will see Libraries for the following applications:

Attendance
HR
Payroll
Recruiting
Training

  1. Open up one of the Libraries by double clicking on it and select a report that approximates the report you need to create.
  2. Make the necessary modifications to tailor the report for your needs.
  3. Do NOT utilize the Report Libraries as your personal report folders. You should utilize SAVE AS to save your modified report off to another location.

Why? The reports in the Libraries can get overwritten when you install new versions of the software from Best.

Reminder: All reports in the Crystal Libraries have been created with Abra Data Access as the Data Source. Therefore you do not have to define Abra Data Access for any of these reports. However, for custom reports you create on your own, you will need to set up Abra Data Access in Crystal prior to proceeding. To learn more about how Abra Data Access works and for instructions on setting up Abra Data Access, go to the online Help on your Abra Suite toolbar, click on Contents and go to the chapter entitled Reports/Custom Reports.
